If you suffer from valve disease, it can be difficult to decide when and how to treat it. The Heart Institute’s experienced multidisciplinary valve team offers an array of proven, cutting-edge treatments provided by some of the top cardiac physicians in the country. Working together, they create an individualized treatment plan to achieve optimal results. Our dedicated cardiothoracic surgeons and interventional cardiologists are experienced in the most advanced diagnostic and treatment services available, including minimally invasive options like transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and mini mitral valve repair that are proven to reduce pain and recovery time. Additionally, our surgeons are experienced in complex valve operations, such as extensive endocarditis, that are often not tackled by other hospitals.
TAVR is a less invasive treatment option for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at higher risk for traditional surgical options. Using a balloon threaded to the heart through a blood vessel in the leg or chest, the diseased valve is pushed aside and replaced with a new valve, while the heart continues to beat, avoiding the need for cardiopulmonary bypass. Adventist Health St. Helena offers all commercially available valves allowing us the widest range of options available for this procedure.
learn moreOur cardiac surgeons began doing minimally invasive cardiac procedures in the year 2000 and therefore have extensive experience in the field of minimally invasive aortic valve replacement. We are able to offer two minimally invasive approaches, one small incision in the upper chest (mini thoracotomy) or in the upper sternum (mini sternotomy).
learn moreTMVR is a minimally invasive procedure that is a surgery-free advance performed by accessing the mitral valve via veins using a catheter. A specially designed clip grasps the mitral valve leaflets, bringing them together and closing the “leak,” allowing blood to pump efficiently through the heart and to the body.
learn moreWe understand that dealing with heart problems can be overwhelming, and navigating the maze of cardiac treatment can be challenging. That’s why we have a dedicated Valve Coordinator to help you through all phases of your cardiac care, connect you with education resources, and coordinate your care with the rest of your health care team.
